Pipeline Protection, MB
Project Overview
Project Type
Pipeline Protection
Location
Red River, St. Clements, Manitoba
Client
Manitoba Hydro
Duration
Six Weeks
The project involved the protection of a natural gas pipeline with the installation of bedding material and articulating concrete block mat. The worksite, located on the Red River, presented challenges to the diving crew including limited visibility and substantial current.
The work encompassed the positioning of 56 mats, weighing 3,600 kg each, positioned over bedding material which stretched 200 metres along the pipeline. All materials were transported two kilometres upstream from the project staging area where a temporary wharf was constructed.
The articulating block mats were hoisted using a 35-ton crane and a 12×20 metre barge. Additional equipment assisted in the final positioning including scanning sonar, pipe locator, and divers to ensure accurate alignment.
